Getting Lost

The Body in 2013

Something that the body symbolizes to me personally in 2013 is the image of God. I have become aware, this year in particular, of my need to become a mirror to reflect attributes of Christ. I think in this period of time. which is saturated with media and technology, it is important to show physical, unconditional love, in order to (re)connect with other humans and nature on a personal level.

Someone who I think embodied this idea of unconditional love is St. Francis of Assisi. His body became a vessel through which he could express the love and kindness of Christ to nature and fellow humans. I wanted to point toward St. Francis in my photos by incorporating objects commonly found in icons of him: birds and branches.

I believe the body in 2013 can address multiple topics through this idea of unconditional love: if we are obsessed with technology, are we loving unconditionally? If we allow mass wasting to occur, are we loving nature unconditionally? If we allow warfare, are we loving one another unconditionally? I am exploring how my body, which God has given me, can be used to its fullest potential as a vehicle of His love.
